About This Spot

Stepping into El Chalan Restaurant feels like discovering a cherished neighborhood gem—a warm, unpretentious place where the inviting hum of conversation blends effortlessly with the aromas of home-style cooking. Nestled quietly in El Sobrante, it offers a relaxed, slow-paced refuge that encourages lingering over shared plates and familiar flavors.

The atmosphere is quietly intimate, touched with the comfortable imperfection of a well-loved local spot rather than polished formality. Friendly staff greet guests with sincere warmth, setting the tone for a meal that’s as much about connection as it is about savoring the food. It’s the kind of place where friendly nods from neighboring tables feel like an unspoken invitation to be part of the community buzz.

El Chalan’s kitchen bridges cultural stories, primarily through Peruvian flavors, occasionally softening the palate with touches of Italian influence. Dishes arrive generously portioned, rich with deep, comforting tastes—whether it’s a hearty bowl of seafood-infused rice or tender, beautifully marinated meats. The presence of classic Peruvian beverages and desserts further roots the dining experience in tradition, yet everything feels approachable, made for sharing and savoring in casual company.

Guests often find themselves drawn to the unassuming charm of the place, appreciating the balance between authentic recipes and friendly, fuss-free hospitality. It’s a spot where food becomes a way to gather, celebrate simple joys, and explore a cuisine that feels both honest and thoughtfully prepared.

Delicious food, reasonable prices, generous portions. Beer and wine. Hole-in-the-wall ambience. A real find. Friendly staff. Great place to hang out. Primarily Peruvian with several Italian dishes on the last page of the menu. I've been to a lot of Peruvian restaurants all over the country. This is a solid choice.

One of the best food I have ever eaten. it was a delicious my kids loved it. The pasta was great bread and Bardar was great and fresh. the appetizer was very good. I love it here. Come back to try another food here. The price was reasonable. my wife and I finished our Whole Foods and my son ate lots of his dishes.

Best kept secret of El Sobrante: El Chalan, Peruvian and Italian restaurant, offers a family atmosphere with great food at a good price. Warm bread and butter is served from the beginning. Their roast 1/2 chicken and whole fried trout, with home style french fries are very popular. Their sea food dishes, especially the seafood soups are delicious. The Italian food is also excellent. Butter nut squash raviolis, gnocchi, and spaghetti are cooked perfectly. Kids love this place.

A no-frills, super authentic Peruvian restaurant that tastes like it does in Peru. Ceviche, lomo saltado, tallarín, and the pollo a la brasa are excellent. Great for a big group as portions are generous.
